Amplifiers and Tone

Guitar amplifiers are, in my opinion, a much underrated piece of equipment. So much thought is put by people (especially beginner guitarists), into which guitar to get when they go out to buy guitars, that’s they forget where the guitar tone is actually coming out from- the Amplifier! A good player can make cheap guitar sound awesome, but if that amazing guitar tone is put through a sub-standard amplifier, its still going to sound like a cheap amplifier!

What am I getting at? Well, if you’re in the position that I know every guitarist has been in at some point, you want to buy a guitar, and you’re looking at guitar prices, but you’re on a budget. Do you spend your money on fancy guitar accessories, or guitar pedals right away in an attempt to find “that” tone. I don’t think so. There are only two things that you really need to get that great sound you want. The first one is your fingers (plugged into your soul and emotion), and the second?

…A playable guitar (plugged into a decent amp)! What do I mean by “a playable guitar”? I mean one that is comfortable to play, one that you can pick up every day- it doesn’t need to be the most expensive one you can find, or one that has all the extra features you just wont even use!

So, do yourself a big favour next time you want to upgrade your guitar gear, and first consider where your sound actually comes out from, your guitar amp!
