Guitar Harmonics

Having covered this on bass, and talked about how harmonics are written down, I thought it must be about time I explain them a bit more for guitar.

So here is a video explaining how to play harmonics (and how they work), and also a diagram explaining where you’ll find them. Basically, it shows the fretboard (fret wires in grey) and the notes are written at the point where you touch the string (the main ones are highlighted).

The main problem with harmonics is that the frets don’t always match up to where you have to touch the string (as the fret is worked out as where the note is, but the harmonics live at set divisions of the length of the string). Without wanting to get too complicated, here is the demonstration video:
