How to Clean Your Guitar

In this video I take you through the stages of cleaning and maintaining your guitar.

Guitar Cleaning Equipment

The things that I use in the video to clean my guitar are:

  1. Guitar Polish (you can buy this from most guitar or music shops)
  2. Lemon Oil (this helps hydrate the wood of the fretboard and stop it drying out and cracking)
  3. A cloth (to apply the polish and lemon oil

The strings can prevent you from reaching some parts of the guitar, so obviously the best time to give it a thorough clean is when you’re changing the strings.

You can either choose to do as I’ve done in the video, and take all the strings off before cleaning…or you can take one string off at a time (while changing them) because it keeps an even tension over the neck.

Either way, cleaning your guitar on a regular basis can not only make it look nicer, but it can also make it play better too (when you remove all the dirt around the frets)!
