Pure, Raw, Unadulterated ROCK!

Imagine the scene: three hairy, bearded rockers in a hot, sweaty practice room, somewhere in the English town of Reading. Armed with only a humble tape recorder and a couple of dynamic microphones strategically placed in the centre of the room, they go about capturing the powerful, heavy beast that is their unique sound. That beast is known as “Frosthammer”, and this is the story of their first ever recording.

I must stress that what you’re about to hear was recorded with the traditional “mic in the middle of the room” setup, so the recording quality is nowhere near studio standards. In fact, you can barely hear the lyrics. The idea behind this was to get a very rough recording of our band so that people knew where we were coming from- and trust me, this is the very definition of “very rough”. The P.A. didn’t work, so the vocals are only coming out of one speaker- and of that only the bass half (so it’s struggling to cut above the rest of the band). The drum kit sounds like it’s made entirely of cardboard boxes, and you can forget about hearing the bass drum! The only guitar amp available was about to blow itself apart, and the whole recording had to be E.Q.ed to find the bass…but that’s not the point.

What you should realise is that these tracks are good despite the poor recording quality. The truth is that, although we do want to re-record these tracks in a proper studio, the amount of sheer rock that we have to give shines through the (almost non-existent) production value. To really get a full sense of what’s going on in these recordings you need to think of it less like a Record, and more like a live recording of a gig on a fan’s mobile phone. All the raw energy and performance that you need to hear is there- just don’t expect us to win the next X-factor with these recordings!

So, if you’re ready for bone-crushing power groves, epic harmony and some serious headbanging (and ONLY if you’re ready!) head on over to Frosthammer’s MySpace and rock your metal heart out!
